First Mon Health Scholars class recognized

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Mon Health Systems and Fairmont State University officials celebrated the first class of Mon Health Scholars at Pinning Ceremonies in the Falcon Center this week. The Mon Health Scholars Program combines the Fairmont State School of Nursing academic programs with the clinical expertise available at Mon Health.

“The impact of our partnership with Mon Health is just beginning,” Mirta M. Martin, president of Fairmont State University, said. “As the first cohort of Mon Health Scholars, these passionate, highly-skilled students will enter the healthcare profession and have immeasurable impact on their communities. This is far more than a scholarship opportunity – it’s an engine that helps us educate our home-grown talent and funnels them into rewarding careers right here in the region.”

The Mon Health Scholars partnership was established to provide Fairmont State University School of Nursing students academic scholarships with a promise of employment with Mon Health System upon graduation.

“The Fairmont State School of Nursing has a longstanding reputation of excellence, producing the best and brightest nurses.” said Krystal Atkinson, Mon Health System Chief Nursing Officer. “We are certain our Mon Health Scholars will enable us to continue providing quality, compassionate care to our communities, and we are proud to support them through every step of their career development.”

“During their time at Fairmont State, our nursing students are provided with the knowledge to succeed as healthcare professionals, applying skills established in authentic healthcare arenas,” said Laura Clayton, Fairmont State School of Nursing Dean. “The Mon Health Scholars program empowers our students to lead in the ever-changing healthcare landscape and we are beyond proud to play a role in the transformation of our students as they become professional nurses.”
