Free Fourth of July activities planned in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Morgantown residents will have two events to celebrate the Fourth of July. The Morgantown Municipal Band will provide early entertainment and festivities wrap up with a celebration at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park- Ruby Amphitheater with music and food trucks.

At 11 a.m. the Morgantown Municipal Band will set up to perform a battery of patriotic standards directed by John Hendricks, the former WVU Director of Bands, and current Associate Dean of the College of Creative Arts.

This is the 31st Fourth July performance for the band and will include songs from John Philip Sousa, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Henry Fillmore, and Irving Berlin.

The Morgantown Municipal Band concert is free and will be held rain or shine.

Director of Arts and Cultural Development, Vincent Kitch said the celebration will continue at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater and will be scheduled very similar to a free Friday night concert event. The gates and food trucks will open at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

“The Tim Litvin Band at 6:30 p.m. doing some country and country rock,” Kitch said. “We’re going to have a performance by the Motown Strutters who are a mature lady’s tap dance organization and they do an entire salute to the military.”

The celebration will continue with favorite from the recent Morgantown Music Festival, and of course a patriotic display in the sky to finish the night.

We’ll have a couple of the Edge, another local great band in town,” Kitch said. “Then at 10 p.m. we will have a serious fireworks display that I hope everyone will enjoy.”
