CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A federal jury returned a guilty verdict against a federal inmate accused of assaulting a fellow prisoner.
Deonte Spicer, 28, an inmate at the United States Penitentiary Hazelton, was found guilty of one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Do Bodily Harm Wednesday, after a two day trial.
Evidence presented at trial indicated that Spicer stabbed a fellow inmate multiple times with a hand crafted weapon during a physical altercation in February.
Spicer faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Special Investigative Services Unit at USP Hazelton investigated.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, while U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
