Justice center window shattered a week before opening; one person in jail

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A week before the new Monongalia County Justice Center is set to open, a man is in jail accused of property destruction.

“It appeared someone had busted out a window, an upper level window, of the new justice center,” explained Monongalia County Commission President, Tom Bloom. “Clearly, someone had shot at the window.”

Police arrested Sammy Martz, 40, charging him with a felony after a $2,500 window was discovered shattered Sunday morning.

Martz, of Morgantown, was being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Bloom said he was appalled when he received the call. The damage was done between 5:30 and 6:00 Sunday morning.

“My anger is at the absurdity of this situation and the constant damage to property and violence towards our citizens and our county.”

He added, “We have to put a stop to this type of attitude that there’s not going to be any consequences.”
