Local FOP members speak out on Morgantown Police Review Board

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Members of the Monongalia-Preston Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 87 have issue a letter opposing the formation of a Citizens Police Review Board.

Morgantown Police officers are not members of a union, nor do they have the ability to collectively bargain.

The letter says city leaders received very little input from Morgantown Police officers and no members of FOP Lodge 87. Additionally, members of FOP Lodge 87 say provisions in the ordinance to establish the committee violate Chapter 8 of West Virginia State Code relating to civil service hiring, due process for officers and protections for officers seeking promotions.

Lodge members have requested a meeting with all concerned to discuss ways work together moving forward.
