Lockdown lifted after suspicious activity reported near school

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– Authorities have given the all-clear after Suncrest Middle School was placed on a temporary lockdown Thursday morning.

Assistant School Superintendent Becky Mattern told WAJR-AM administrators notified police after some teachers arriving at school thought they saw an individual in the area who may have been carrying a rifle over his shoulder. Lockdown procedures were implemented, including diverting buses and parents dropping off students. Cops swept the area but found nothing suspicious and lifted the lockdown.

Mattern said everyone followed their training erred on the side of extreme caution by notifying authorities.
