Man accused of hitting boy with bat

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County man faces felony child abuse charges.

Ernest Marshall II, 30, is accused of hitting a 3-year-old boy with a baseball bat.

According to Sgt. Adam Scott, WV State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, the boy had severe bruising on part of his back and spine.

Investigators also discovered bruises on the child’s arm.

He had complained to day care workers that he was in pain.

Marshall initially denied the accusations but later confessed to causing the bruises.

The victim told authorities he’d been beaten because he had been bad at day care the day before.

Marshall was arrested May 8 and arraigned in Marion County Court.  He has been released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
