Maryland man indicted for alleged incident in Morgantown High bathroom

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A Monongalia County grand jury has indicted a Maryland man for allegedly filming students in a bathroom at the Morgantown High School.

John Alexander Knoll, Jr., 21, of Annapolis, MD, is facing four counts of filming minors in sexually explicit conduct and four counts of possession of material depicting minors in sexually explicit conduct.

Knoll was arrested in October of 2021 at his Morgantown apartment after an investigation that was initiated by an off-duty police officer. Knoll was observed filming students in the bathroom during a basketball event at Morgantown High School. He was detained until uniformed officers arrive.

During the investigation police learned Knoll had filmed other students in the bathroom during another basketball event two prior to his apprehension.

Police said these incidents remain under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Morgantown Police Department Detective Division at 304-284-7454.

Officials with WVU confirmed that Knoll is no longer a student at the university.
