Maryland man sentenced in 2018 fatal hit-and-run

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Thirty-nine-year-old Ladon Garrett has been sentenced to one to five years in prison for fatal hit-and-run accident on Earl L. Core Road in July of 2018.

Divante Coles, 20, was riding home from work when he was struck from behind and killed.

Police found the car abandoned days later in Harrison County and Garrett, of Randallstown, Maryland, surrendered to detectives at the Monongalia County Justice Center and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

The Morgantown Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Clarksburg Police Department and West Virginia State Police all participated in the investigation.
