THE SERIES
Morgantown is 0-3 against the Big Red. The two teams met in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. The Mohigans best showing against Steubenville came in their last meeting at Pony Lewis Field, a 20-14 loss.

MOHIGAN NOTES
There’s no getting around that Morgantown took one on the chin last Friday at North Allegheny, although, the game could have taken on a different complexion if the Mohigans were able to take advantage of getting the football deep inside Tiger territory late in the first half.

There were glimpses of what Morgantown’s offense should look like. Ty Konchesky and Javohn Moore ran hard out of the backfield. Expect them to get a few more carries this week. The Mohigans have athletes on the outside. A key to success will be getting them the football in space and letting them make plays in the open field.

STEUBENVILLE NOTES
The Big Red always have big expectations. Steubenville is coming off back-to-back appearances in the Ohio state championship game. The Big Red lost the 2015 title game, 31-28 to Columbus Bishop Hartley. The two teams met again last year, with Hartley kicking a game winning field goal as time expired for the 24-21 win.

Steubenville returns 20 lettermen from last year’s team, including quarterback Javon Davis. Davis threw for more than 2,000 yards a year ago.

The Big Red are coming off its 16th consecutive season opener win, defeating Upper St. Clair 35-7. Davis was lethal in the pocket in the win, throwing for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Quarterback Javon Davis can do a little bit of everything for the Big Red. He has the ability to throw and to make plays with his legs if needed. Caleb Mitchell will get the start in the backfield.

For the Mohigans, don’t be surprised to see Ty Konchesky and Javohn Moore get a few more carries out of the backfield.
