MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Mon County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of a Sunday morning shooting on Earl L. Core Road.
At 11 a.m. the victim, with his juvenile son, was sitting in the parking lot of Geer Limestone. While the victim was out of the car William Shifflett, 73, of Masontown, pulled up and shot the him in the face. The victim got in his car and fled the scene and Shifflett began to chase him.
During the chase, Shifflett hit the car with one gunshot before crashing. The victim returned to the parking lot to wait for the arrival of police.
The victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
Shifflett has been charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment and malicious assault.
The investigation is ongoing.
