Morgantown police arrest one, recover stolen vehicle

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Police in Morgantown recovered a stolen car from New Jersey and made one arrest early Thursday morning.

At 4 a.m. Thursday police located the car at a residence on West Virginia Avenue after being notified by authorities in the Garden State and began surveillance.

By 1 p.m. police confirmed the suspect, Robert Michael Rye, 31, of Morgantown, was in the home. Rye was found hiding under the basement steps after a resident allowed police into the home.

Rye was unarmed and taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with possession of stolen property and an outstanding Preston County warrant for felony destruction of property.
