Murder suspect captured during shoplifting investigation

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – A shoplifting investigation resulted in the arrest of a murder suspect who has been on the run for six days, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Arlo Romano, 42, of Morgantown was taken into custody after attempting to give police a false identity.

Trooper Kalee Barnhart, public information officer/community service officer with Troop B said at 7:35 p.m. Monday police responded to the Uniontown Walmart on a report of a male and female stealing merchandise. Barnhart said the pair put the items back on the shelf and when questioned Romano gave police a fake name.

“We were able to identify that the male was providing a false ID,” Trooper Barnhart said. “He was transported back to the station where mobile ID was used that verified his identity.”

The unidentified female cooperated with police during the investigation.

Last week, Romano fled on foot from the BFS store on Fairchance Road and began a six day run from police through Birch Hollow and into the Chestnut Ridge Park area. Officials closed the park during the search, but it has reopened. Private security will patrol the park from dawn to dusk through the end of the week.

The last reported sighting of Romano was Friday near a vehicle at the entrance to the park. Deputies searched the area and were stationed at the park entrance through the weekend.

“He was found to be in possession of a stolen motorcycle that was taken from Preston County, West Virginia,” Trooper Barnhart said.

Romano and Cleotis “Ghost” Eppes, 42, of Harbor Woods, Michigan, are accused in the May 7 drug-related killing of Matt Moore.

Eppes has been arraigned for first degree murder, conspiracy and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. It is not clear what charges Romano will face yet.

This is a developing story.
