Murderer sentenced to 20 years behind bars

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A man involved in a Morgantown murder has been sentenced to less than half the potential prison time he was facing.

Jason Boyd, charged with first degree murder in death of Luther Hill, previously admitted to second degree murder, malicious wounding and wanton endangerment.

At a Tuesday, Nov. 29 sentencing, Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Phillip Gaujot ordered Boyd to 20 years in prison. He’ll be eligible for parole in a decade.
Boyd’s Aug. 23 guilty plea stems from a shooting at Solomon’s Village trailer park in January 2015.

Hill, 43, was struck by a bullet while in his vehicle, drove to nearby Marjorie Gardens and from there transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he died.

A second victim was injured in the shooting.

Boyd was facing up to 65 years in prison from the three charges combined.
