New Jersey man killed in I-68 crash in Preston County

PRESTON COUNTY, W.Va. – West Virginia State Police have identified the person killed in a Sunday afternoon crash on I-68 as Kanhai John, 42, of Jersey City, New Jersey.

The crash happened at mile marker 19 on the eastbound side of I-68 at 12:15 p.m. Sunday. Reports indicate John was traveling west on I-68 when he failed to negotiate a curve, went into the median and rolled several times. The truck, carrying 80 barrels of Piperidine, a “corrosive, flammable and combustive chemical, broke into four sections.

John’s wife and passenger was able to get out of the truck and was treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital. John was trapped in the truck and died at the scene.

The section of highway was closed for several hours for clean up.
