One arrested following attack on Morgantown police officer

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A report from the Morgantown Police Department says an open alcohol container in downtown led to an attack on a police officer.

Police say Paul Wilburn was walking along High Street with an open bottle of liquor. When police grabbed the bottle from him he punched the officer in the chest. Wilburn continued to struggle while police placed him under arrest.

Wilburn was charged with battery on a police officer, second offense. Wilburn was charged with battery on an officer previously in September of 2019.

Wilburn is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
