UPDATED: One killed in Fairmont shooting early Thursday

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – One person was reportedly shot and killed in Fairmont early Thursday morning.

Fairmont Police Chief Steve Shine said officers were dispatched at 2:50 a.m. Thursday to the Fairmont Hills Apartment Complex, where they found a 22-year-old male from the Keyser/Frostburg area dead of a single gunshot wound.

Shine said it appears the shooting is drug-related, but the area is not widely known for drug activity.

The victim had a passenger who was not injured and there was another witness reported at the scene, according to Shine.

Detectives from the Fairmont Police Department are actively investigating the crime and say there is no threat to residents in the area.
