PA teacher pleads guilty to sex charge in WV

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Pennsylvania teacher faces 30 years in prison for crossing into West Virginia with the intent of having sex with a minor.

Daniel S. McGarvey, 44, of Uniontown, pleaded guilty to one count of “Travel with Intent to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct” in federal court Tuesday.

McGarvey traveled to Bridgeport in October 2014 to meet a girl he believed was just 15 years old. McGarvey admitted to using internet-based websites and text messaging to meet to engage in sexual conduct.

Bridgeport Police and the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated the case.

In addition to three decades in prison, McGarvey also faces a fine of up to $250,000.00
