Plea deal expected in Alexa Randolph murder case

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The man charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of his grandson’s mother is expected to enter into a plea agreement Tuesday.

Gary Smith, 60 is charged with killing Alexa Randolph

Gary Smith, 60, is accused of beating Alexa Randolph earlier this year, putting her body in her car car and leaving it at the Morgantown Walmart on Hornbeck Road.

Randolph was reported missing to Morgantown police January 28 after she failed to pick up her son. Surveillance from the parking lot allegedly shows her car being dropped off just before 9 p.m. on the 28th and a subject leaving the area on foot.

Monongalia County detectives arrested Smith February 10 after they said he made suspicious statements during a police interview.

Smith was indicted for first-degree murder in March of this year.
