UPDATED: Willey Street suspect surrenders to Morgantown police

MORGANTOWN. W.Va. – Morgantown police just after 3 p.m. Tuesday a subject barricaded in a home on Willey Street surrendered without incident.

The Morgantown Police department was called at 1:30 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute. A woman ran from the home when police arrived and the male subject refused to surrender.

Police closed North Willey Street between Mansion Street and Desmoines Avenue during the standoff. The Mountaineer Middle School was never in danger according to city officials.

The West Virginia University Police Department assisted.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Morgantown Police Department is advising people to avoid North Willey Street.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. police were called to a home near the entrance of the College Park Apartments.

Morgantown Communications manager Andrew Stacy says city police are responding to a gunman barricaded in a house on North Willey Street. The situation is contained to the specific house and there is no immediate danger to Mountaineer Middle School.

WAJR News has heard from listeners that say up to 12 police officers are on scene and police cruisers are being used to block Willey Street.

Willey Street is closed between Mansion Street and Desmoines Avenue.
