Two jailed in alleged robbery, extortion attempt in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two Morgantown men are being held in North Central Regional Jail following an attempted robbery and extortion.

A reort from police says Thomas Corcione and Marcus Penrose forced their way into an apartment wearing ski masks and took $400 at gunpoint from the resident. As the suspects were leaving they instructed the victim to place $1,000 in a mailbox on Allen Avenue on two future dates.

Two threats were made by the men via social media leading up to the date the money was demanded.

When Corcione told victim via social media he was on the way to the mailbox police were waiting and arrested him. Police used Corcione’s cell phone to identify the second suspect, Marcus Penrose.

Both are being held for armed robbery and attempted extortion in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
