Two ladder trucks needed to extinguish fire in vacant Morgantown business

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Morgantown firefighters battled a fire in a vacant business on Don Knotts Boulevard early Wednesday morning.

When crews arrived at the scene fire was shooting through the roof of the former location of Dinsmore Tire at 195 Don Knotts Boulevard. The officer in charge quickly signaled a second alarm followed by a general alarm.

A general alarm requires the call-back of all off duty firefighters.

Firefighters were able to save a portion of the building by using two ladder trucks to fight the blaze and protect surrounding areas. The rook of the rear section of the building was destroyed by fire and suppression operations.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The Morgantown Utility Board owns the property.

Investigators believe the fire started in the rear section of the building, and the cause is under further investigation at this time.

Evidence at the scene shows the building was being used by numerous homeless people.
