U.S. Marshals capture suspect in Fairmont shooting

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – An attempted murder suspect wanted by the Fairmont Police Department was captured by U.S. Marshals early Monday while fishing of AFR Road.

Acting Chief Deputy U. S. Marshal Terry Moore says Shawn Monte Pritchard, 34, allegedly shot at two people May 3 on Hoult Road in Fairmont. Police say the two people were not hit, but shots did strike the vehicle they were in.

According to a press release, Pritchard was fishing around 1 a.m. off AFR Road when members of the U. S. Marshals Service Mountain State Fugitive Task Force and the West Virginia State Police, Special Response Team approached him. Pritchard fled the scene, but was captured after a short foot chase.

Police recovered a firearm from Pritchard.

Moore says police caught up with Pritchard after a failed attempt to apprehend him Sunday.

Pritchard will appear before a Marion County Magistrate, if he is detained he’ll be held in the North Central Regional Jail.
