Warming, cooking fire thought to be cause of Morgantown vacant building fire

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Fire investigators in Morgantown returned to the former Dinsmore Tire location to continue their investigation into a major fire Wednesday night.

Investigators found evidence of numerous people using the vacant building as a residence or for shelter. The investigation determined someone discharged a fire extinguisher in a failed attempt to put the blaze out.

Physical evidence shows a warming or cooking fire was set in the building.

The Morgantown Utility Board owns the building and will raze a portion immediately and tear down the main building in the near future.
