THE SERIES
Brooke got the best of the Mohigans in 2015, defeating the Mohigans 24-14 in the opening round of the playoffs. Last year, Morgantown went to Wellsburg and shutout the Bruins 36-0.

MOHIGAN NOTES
The Mohigans got in the win column last week with a 31-10 win over Parkersburg South. After battling bigger, deeper teams in the first two weeks of the season, Morgantown pushed the Patriots around rushing for 340 yards. It will be interesting to see the Mohigans’ offensive attack against the Bruins. Morgantown started the game against Parkersburg South with Jahvon Moore at the quarterback position, running a modernized version of the old single-wing offense. Unfortunately for the Mohigans, Moore was injured on the first drive of the game and the offense never got a chance to take off.

BROOKE NOTES
Brooke enters the game 0-2, facing Wheeling Park and University to open the season. The Bruins did not fair well against either team. Wheeling Park’s Rennie Clark rushed for 145 yards and quarterback Cross Wilkinson threw for another 176 yards. University ran for 204 yards while holding Brooke to just 65 yards on the ground.

Brooke has some size, especially at receiver with 6-foot-4 Ethan Secrist and 6-foot-5 Tripp Moore. However, getting the ball in their hands can be a challenge.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Ty Konchesky burst on the scene last week with 247 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the win over Parkersburg South. The junior was the workhorse for the Mohigans, especially when Javohn Moore went out with an injury and Morgantown’s running options were limited. Konchesky will be asked to carry the load again this week against a Bruins team that has been susceptible to giving up big chunks of yardage on the ground.

NEXT UP
Morgantown makes the first of its back-to-back trips to the eastern panhandle next week when it faces the defending champion Martinsburg Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. Listen to the game on AM1440 and wajrsports.com.
