Woman sentenced fatal hit & run

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The maximum sentence has been handed down for a woman who ran over a man walking along Monongahela Blvd and fled the scene.

Heather McIntyre was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday, after agreeing to plead guilty to negligent homicide. McIntyre’s sentence was part of a binding plea agreement. She was initially indicted for leaving the scene of an accident with death, which carries a one to five year prison sentence. She can petition the court to reconsider her sentence after six months.

James Maloney, 32, was walking home from work Monongahela Boulevard in May 2014 when he was run over by McIntyre. She ran from the scene and didn’t surrender to police until several days later.

None of Maloney’s family members were present for Monday’s hearing.
