WVU student charged in frat rape

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A West Virginia University student has been charged with felony second-degree sexual assualt, accused of raping a woman at a fraternity house.

Sean Douglas Innerst, 19, of Morgantown, was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges and bail was set at $50,000.

The alleged assault happened during a party at the Phi Sigma Eplison house on Belmar Avenue in Morgantown. The female victim told police she met Innerest at the party, had several drinks and went to his bedroom. The victimed reported Innerest pushed her down on his bed, took off her clothes, and had sex without her consent.

Second-degree sexual assault is punishable by 10 to 25 years in prison.

In a statement Tuesday, WVU spokeswoman Becky Lofstead said, “We are aware of a criminal complaint filed against a student and the ongoing investigation by the Morgantown Police Department. The university takes these matters very seriously and will, as always, provide all possible assistance and support to local law enforcement, as well as to assess the matter for further University action.”

Innerst is listed as a WVU student in the university’s online directory.
