Armed man killed in officer involved shooting in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A man armed with a shotgun was shot and killed by Monongalia County Sheriff’s deputies during an armed robbery investigation Thursday.

According to Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston, Monongalia County Sheriff’s deputies went to 1043 Charles Avenue to serve search and arrest warrants related to a first degree armed robbery.

People at the home reportedly tried to keep uniformed deputies from entering the residence. Deputies fired on a man who was armed with a shotgun.

Further investigation determined the man was also armed with a handgun at the time of the shooting.

“Emergency medical personnel were staged in the immediate area because of the serious nature of the crimes involved and were able to immediately start emergency medical treatment,” according Preston.

The individual was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Morgantown Police Department is the lead investigating agency and will be assisted by Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is underway.

“Because of the complexity of this investigation there will be no anticipated updates or further information until after noon on November 6, 2015,” stated the Morgantown Police Department release.
