Drvar running for BoE on anti-bullying platform

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former Monongalia County Sheriff’s reserve deputy and current Westwood Middle School aide Gary Drvar has his eye on a vacant seat with the Monongalia County Board of Education.

“The Monongalia County school kids, I’ve seen what’s going on with the kids,” he said Tuesday on WAJR’s Morgantown AM. “I’m interested in helping the kids.”

Drvar, a Morgantown High School graduate, is primarily running on an anti-bullying platform.

“First thing I’m going to do is try to stop bullying,” he said. “It’s the main problem in this county. I’ve seen it more and more.”

He also advocates a less tolerant policy towards known bullying.

“To me, boy or girl, boys they have maybe two times,” he said. “The third time, I think, if they do that one to student, kick him out the rest of his life. Make him go be home schooled.”

Drvar also unsuccessfully ran for Monongalia County Sheriff in 2016.

The cut-off to register to vote is April 17. Early voting begins April 25.

Election Day is May 8.
