MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two Michigan residents have been arrested after being found with controlled substances in downtown Morgantown early Monday.
Deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle with a Pennsylvania registration driving on Chestnut Street with no taillights at 12:30 a.m.
Deputies identified the driver as Quantrez Gibson, 26, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, and the passenger as Deante B. Hurt, 27, of Detroit.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle police recovered more than 40 oxycodone pills and more than 30 packages of marijuana.
The two men also had $1,600 in cash between the two of them, mainly in $20 and $100 bills. Both suspects also had multiple cellphones in their possession.
Hurt has a criminal history in Monongalia County in September of 2023 he was indicted by a grand jury for multiple counts of device fraud, grand larceny and conspiracy.
In December 2023, Hurt was charged with four counts possession with intent and conspiracy to deliver controlled substances, and in March he was again charged with two counts possession with intent to deliver controlled substances. He was released on bonds of $100,000 in both cases.
Hurt and Gibson were arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Monday and released after each posted a $50,000 bond. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for April 18.
