Mon-Preston United Way tops 2022 fund raising goal

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Monongalia-Preston County United Way announced they have surpassed their goal of $1.2 million in a pandemic years. Campaign chairwoman Tammi Alexander thanked the community, businesses and volunteers for meeting the challenge.

“Our grand total for this campaign is $1,266,711, so about 105 percent of our goal,” Alexander said.

The initial total raised was $1,212,317, but a late workplace campaign total of $54,394 boosted the figure.

All the donations stay in the area supporting the United Way mission of promoting health, education and financial stability. Some programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, West Virginia 211 and the Monongalia County Family Resource Network.

“It goes to fund 26 agencies and there are about 39 different programs,” Alexander said. ” Some of the agencies have multiple programs, but we also have programs that are operated right out of the United Way office.”

Additionally, Alexander said each of the organizations are vetted and monitored throughout the program year.

“There are many committees that go through and evaluate the various programs, agencies and we make sure everything is audited,” Alexander said.

Surpassing the goal during the pandemic was quite an accomplishment and moment to savor. According to Alexander, it was truly a total team effort every step of the way.

“It’s a lofty goal to attempt to raise $1.2 million in a year like this one,” Alexander said. ” It’s definitely been an unusual year and we’ve had to pivot due to the pandemic, but I’m happy to say we exceeded the goal.”
