UPDATE: Detectives following leads in Alexa Randolph murder

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Detectives in Monongalia County are actively following multiple leads and have the help of the West Virginia State Police in the Alexa Randolph homicide investigation.

Randolph was last seen alive at her Overdale Street apartment on Thursday, January 28 when a missing person report was filed with the Morgantown police Department. About 24 hours later the body of the 32-year-old was found in the cargo area of her Ford Escape parked in the Walmart parking lot on Hornbeck Road in Morgantown city limits.

“It was a situation where she hadn’t pick up her child and that made people think that something wasn’t right,” Mon County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Pete Tennant said on WAJR’s Talk of the Town,” That’s when they started looking into where she could possibly be and who she talked to last.”

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Mon County Sheriff’s Department and the Morgantown Police Department.

“Once we recovered the body and took it to Charleston, the Medical Examiner looked at it they confirmed we were investigating a homicide,” Lt. Tennant said.

Investigators have received several calls and are sifting through evidence, but are tight lipped about suspects or leads.

“Digital evidence, electronic evidence to determine where she may have been, where she came from and who else could be involved,” Lt Tennant said.

According to Sheriff Perry Palmer, the investigation is active and any information can be left confidentially by calling 304-291-7218.

“As of this time, her vehicle has been taken to the State Police Crime Lab as well as some other evidence,” Palmer said,” An autopsy was performed on Monday and out detectives were present for that.”

“I will say we have multiple leads which has certainly taken us in a particular direction,” Lt. Tennant said,” I won’t identify a suspect or suspects at this point, but I will say that evidence and leads have pointed us in a certain direction.”
