2023 Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award recipients announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Mountaineer Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, has announced three recipients of the 2023 Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award.

Sharon Petite, Principal of Ridgedale Elementary School in Monongalia County; Dr. Michelle Richards-Babb, Associate Chair and Chemistry Professor at West Virginia University; and Dr. Jay Cole, Senior Advisor to the President, Truman Scholar Faculty Advisor, and Professor in the Honors College at West Virginia University, will be recognized at a dinner in Morgantown on November 2.

The Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award recognizes individuals who work hard to educate and integrate the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, helping to develop character and leadership qualities in young people.

The Mountaineer Area Council will host the honorees at the 10th Annual Distinguished Citizens Dinner in the Erickson Alumni Center on November 2 at 6 p.m. The Distinguished Citizens Dinner is also a major fundraiser for the Mountaineer Area Council, which supports Boy Scouts of America programs in north-central West Virginia.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the educators and Distinguished Corporate Citizen Jeff Hostetler, former WVU and NFL quarterback and founder of the Hoss Foundation.
