Morgantown city manager announces exit timeline

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Morgantown city manager Paul Brake informed city council his last day of employment in West Virginia will be May 14.
Brake told council members he expected the search for a replacement to take about three months.

The cost of the search for a new city manager and salary for an interim city manager will be funded with the savings of three months of his salary. Brake says the savings for three months of his salary would be $48,000. From that figure the city will be required to pay a consulting fee of $12,500, an executive serach fee of $25,000 and $5,000 for an additional compensation for an interim city manager.

Brake is expected to give his 30-day notice April 14.

City council was also informed that due to the COVID-19 outbreak Southern Airways would like to cut half of their flights from the Morgantown Municipal Airport for 81 days while keeping 100 percent of the Essential Air Service grant money.

Brake explained the arrangement was typical of other small airports during the COVID-19 situation.
