Alcohol Commission, police investigate possible St. Patrick’s Day weekend offenses

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A compliance check at a downtown bar by the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration led to a search by the Morgantown Police Department on Saturday.

The MPD and WVABCA were seen entering The Bank at 344 High Street night. The Bank closed before its regularly scheduled time on Sunday morning.

Andrew Stacy, Morgantown’s public information officer, said the MPD is only investigating criminal offenses, which are still being determined. No more information can be shared as the investigation is ongoing.

Code, Fallout Shelter, Joe Mama’s, Tailgater’s Pub 2, Fat Daddy’s and The Sports Page, were also subjected to routine inspections on Saturday night, Gig Robinson, WVABCA spokesperson, said. The MPD also participated in those inspections.

Stacy said it’s common for law enforcement to assist the WVABCA, since the agency can only issue administrative violations.

Robinson said administrative violations issued by the WVABCA are being reviewed and did not state what violations were issued on St. Patrick’s Day. Violations can result in the licensee receiving a warning, fine or suspension.

Additionally, seven citations were issued to people attempting to use fake ID’s to purchase alcohol on St. Patrick’s Day. The joint MPD and WVABCA operation was conducted with the cooperation of the businesses, Robinson said.

Two citations were issued at Fat Daddy’s, one at Sheetz in Sunnyside and four at Little General on Willey Street.
