All motorists asked to stay off roads Tuesday evening in Morgantown area

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Both MECCA 911 officials and Morgantown’s Chief of Police are requesting all motorists stay off the roads to allow emergency crews to reach accidents and to allow state and local crews to treat the roads.

Snow and ice has gridlocked traffic throughout much of the Morgantown area. Morgantown is expected to receive two to four inches of snow Tuesday evening followed by extremely frigid overnight temperatures.

Parts of Willey Street, Mon Boulevard, Van Voorhis Road, Rt. 705, Mileground Road, and Beechurst Avenue are experiencing gridlock. A number of side streets downtown are closed due to accidents.

I-68 and I-79 are slowed down, but not fully stopped.

MECCA 911 confirmed 25 accidents reported in the area.
