Area airport earns $15 million federal grant for terminal work

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The North Central West Virginia Airport will share in a portion of the $1 billion announced this week by the federal government for aviation infrastructure.

The Federal Aviation Administration will allocate $15 million for the terminal project.

Construction is underway on the 100 acre Aerotech Business Park including new access to I-279. The airport is also home to the Pierpont Community and Technical College Aircraft Maintenance program and the Fairmont State University pilot training program.

The airport currently has an estimated economic impact to the state of $1 billion. When the Aerotech Business Park is complete it is expected to create 1,000 new jobs and increase the economic impact to nearly $2 billion.
