Area Community Corrections Programs Receive Grant Funding

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced the allocation of funds that will assist local communities establish and continue operations of community corrections programs.

The $6,311,801 in grants will funds 27 projects across the state.

“Over the past few years, we have worked hard to improve our state’s justice system by including more community-based corrections and substance abuse treatment options, and we’ve made great progress on both fronts,” Gov. Tomblin said. “The presentation of this grant funding will help continue the momentum we’ve built by providing programs with the financial means to develop new and innovative programming and enhance existing initiatives to further safeguard our communities and strengthen West Virginia’s justice system.”

The West Virginia Community Corrections Grant Program is intended to provide a means for communities to develop, establish and maintain community-based corrections programs to provide the judicial system with sentencing alternatives for those offenders who may require less than institutional custody.

These funds are administered by the West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services.

Grant funding was allocated in the WAJR listening area as follows:

-Braxton County Commission
$90,000
These funds will be utilized for the continued operation of a community corrections program in Braxton County.

-Doddridge County Commission
$90,000
These funds will be utilized for the continued operation of a community corrections program in Doddridge, Ritchie, and Pleasants Counties.

-Fayette County Commission
$155,000
These funds will be utilized for the continued operation of a community corrections program in Fayette County.

-Greenbrier County Commission
$231,757
These funds will be utilized for the continued operation of a community corrections program in Greenbrier County.

-Harrison County Commission
$183,619
These funds will be utilized for the continued operation of a community corrections program in Harrison County.

-Marion County Commission

These funds will be utilized for the continued operation of a community corrections program in Marion County.

-Monongalia County Commission
