Bids for two area repaving projects under review by the DOH

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –  The West Virginia Department of Highways (DOH) is reviewing two bids for paving work in the Monongalia County area. DOH District 4 Construction Engineer Jason Nelson said Kingwood-based Mountaineer Contractors, Inc., is the apparent low bidder for work on Burroughs Street from Collins Ferry Road to WV 705 and the exit 152 ramps to I-79.

The Burroughs Street work is valued at $650,570 and is similar to recent improvements on Willey Street.

“Milling, repaving, and I believe there is some minor drainage to be addressed,” Nelson said. “Getting the drainage into the ditch line, gutter pans, and inlets”

Delays and congestion are expected when the project begins, according to Nelson.

“That type of thing will not occur until sometime in May or spring of 2024,” Nelson said.

The apparent low bid for the on and off ramp work at I-79 exit 152 is $661,548 and includes repaving and a guardrail upgrade.

“It’s another mill-and-fill type situation where we’re taking two inches of asphalt off and putting two inches back,” Nelson said. “We’ll regrade everything and upgrade any of the guard rails to the new height standards.”

Nelson stressed the work on the ramps only, but some delays and congestion could result on I-79 and U.S. 19 below.

“There really won’t be any work on the I-79 mainline itself, and there won’t be any work on U.S. 19 that crosses underneath the interstate,” Nelson said.”

The project bids were received on November 14.
