MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – We could learn about the future of Big Daddy Guns in the area Wednesday when it holds a press conference in Morgantown.
The event will be held at Defense In Depth with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the press conference starting at 6:30 p.m.
Big Daddy Guns Co-founder Sherrie McKnight is expected to attend and make her first public comments since it was announced last Friday that Hardy World LLC, the developer of The Deck, had terminated its lease for retail space with Big Daddy Guns. Associate General Counsel for Hardy World LLC, Logan Williams maintained the decision was made after careful consideration with the Big Daddy Guns management.
However, the announcement came after weeks of public debate. The group Protect Morgantown actively opposed plans for the store in the University Avenue structure with a petition drive that collected about 2,000 signatures and multiple appearances at Morgantown City Council meetings and various public events.
The group is now proposing changes to the city’s zoning code that would limit where new firearms retailers could locate in Morgantown.
