BREAKING: Morgantown fireman killed in Wednesday crash

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The victim in a Morgantown fatality Wednesday was a city fireman.

Vanden King, Firefighter First Class with the Morgantown Fire Department, died as the result of a collision on Route 119 just before 10 a.m.

Morgantown police arrived on scene between the Hornbeck Road and Scott Avenue intersections to find King’s silver sedan mangled and off the side of Route 119 near the I-68 on ramp.

King, 41, was pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

An accident reconstruction team has preliminarily determined King’s car was struck by a Ford F-350 driven by Harold Lipscomb, 67 of Bruceton Mills.

According to investigators, Lipscomb was turning left off of U. S. 119 to access Interstate 68 eastbound when his truck hit the 4-door Audi Sedan driven by King.

Lipscomb was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

King was off duty at the time of the crash.

County leaders have lowered flags in his honor.
