Business Day Camp runs this week in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU John Chambers College of Business & Economics is hosting 14 grade school students this week for the Business Day Camp.

WVU Teaching Associate Professor, Suzanne Gosden-Kitchen said, “They are here to start their own business, decide of they’re going to be a sole-proprietor or a partnership, theyr’re going to name their business and they’re going to staff their business.”

During the week the third through fifth graders will participate in business-related curriculum and workshops, from operations, finance to markerting.

While learning, the students will develop a product, unique to their business concept and market research. These products will available for the public to purchase during Market Day on Friday.

Gosden-Kitchen said, “They also have heard from several non-profit agencies already, just yesterday and today and it goes through the entire week. Because, the profit from the sale of their DIY craft on Friday does not go to them, they don’t get to keep the money. They have to vote on where they want to donate to a non-profit agency.”

The students have listened to presentations from Hearts of Gold, Homeward Bound, On Eagles Wings, Pantry Plus More, and The Linus Project.

The students also have the opportunity to have a Skype session with U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin. Courtesy of Manchin’s office, former Mountaineer mascot Michael Garcia will spend time with the camp goers.
