Constitution Week celebrated September 17 – 23

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Woodburn Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrate Constitution Week from Tuesday, September 17 through Monday, September 23. The week is designed to encourage people to read and understand the most important document in American history.

Vice regent Jane Larke said,”Promote and encourage reading of the Constitution, knowing the Constitution, just knowing your rights and responsibilities.”

In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The public is invited to ring a bell at the Bells Across America ceremony Tuesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Monongalia County courthouse.
