Coronavirus surge continues in Preston County despite statewide downward trends

KINGWOOD, W.Va. – Health officials in Preston County report they have the fourth highest coronavirus infection rate in the state. Preston County is the 15th most densely populated county in state and reported 144 new ccoronavirus cases in the last week.

Health officials said the downward trend experienced in other areas of the state is not being felt in Preston County. At 78, Thursday, September 23 was the highest confirmed case number since the beginning of the pandemic. Current active coronavirus cases now number 397.

The percentage of people 12 and over that are fully vaccinated in the county is at 43-percent. The Monday report from the DHHR said at least 14,000 county residents have had at least one shot of the vaccine.
