DOH to hold job fair in Preston County this week

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — The state’s Division of Highways is holding a hiring fair Wednesday, April 17 in Preston County.

Last month, Gov. Jim Justice ordered a significant increase of DOH employees into Preston County from outside DOH District 4 to begin work on ditching, shoulder stabilization, and significant work on the county’s crumbling secondary infrastructure.

Around 100 employees, half of whom were staying at Camp Dawson, are assisting in the work.

The additional hiring fair will give the DOH to try to hire entry level transportation workers, equipment operating transportation workers, and mechanics.

“The original number that they wanted me to go after only increased,” the DOH’s Leslie Adkins said. “I’m looking to add more employees to highways.”

The hiring fair is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Camp Dawson’s Armory, 12597 River Road in Kingwood.

“I don’t have a true number on what we’re looking for, but I can tell you that it will be above quota because of the emphasis on the secondary roads being added to the Roads to Prosperity,” Adkins said.
