Election day 2022 is here

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Today is the first general election day since redistricting and for some there could be issues. Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney said when the lines were redrawn, many polling places changed as well.

“if you did not vote in primary, but are coming out to vote in general you want to take some time and verify where you’re going before you head out tomorrow,” Blaney said.

MetroNews Accuweather reports the forecast for election day will be sunshine and a high of 59.

“The forecast looks like we’re going to have pretty good weather, so I hope that’s an aid to getting more people to come out and vote,” Blaney said. “But, I think it will probably end up on par with the same voter turnout we had in 2018.”

Voter turnout in 2018 was 42 percent.

People that voted in the primary are likely in the know about what changes were brought by redistricting. Blaney said it will likely be the people who sat the primary out who have the most difficulties.

“Your voting precinct may have changed from the last time you appeared to vote in the general election,” Blaney said. “So, if you did not vote in the primary, but you’re coming out for the general you should take some time and verify where you’re going.”

Blaney said they plan to have people available all election day to help, or there are also online resources.

GoVoteWv.com or you can call our county clerks office in Morgantown 304-291-7230 and one of our staff will be happy to look up your registration,” Blaney said.

For people that want to look at a sample ballot and language for the four amendments the Monongalia County Clerk website has all the information plus sample ballots and other instructions.

“On our website we have the sample ballot for each precinct, linked to the precinct with driving directions to those polling locations,” Blaney said.
