Fairmont man charged after using drugs while watching children

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – A Fairmont man has been charged with two counts of child neglect after allegedly using methamphetamine while caring for two juveniles.

Police were called to the home on Gaston Gaston Avenue for a welfare check after an argument between Jeffery Hibbs, 35, and another individual on Dec. 27.

Police said when they made contact with Hibbs, he had slurred speech and was acting erratically.

While at the home, one of the juveniles expressed fear and concern over Hibbs and his behavior.

Hibbs was placed in custody after refusing to perform a field sobriety test. Once in custody, Hibbs agreed to the test and admitted to the police that he had snorted methamphetamine prior to watching the children.

Hibbs is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
