Fairmont woman sentenced in death of toddler

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – A woman charged in the abuse death of a 4-year old child in Fairmnt has been sentenced by Marion County Circuit Court Judge David Janes. Ashlee Allen, 28, left the child in the care of Waler Richardson, 34, in 2021, who Allen knew abused the boy in the past.

Allen was initially charged with the death of a child by abuse due to his knowledge of previous abuse events. However, she entered a guilty plea to child neglect with injury, gross child neglect creating a risk of injury or death, and gross child neglect resulting in death.

Judge Janes sentenced Allen to no less than 1 and no more than 10 years for child neglect with injury, 1 and no more than 10 years for gross child neglect creating a risk of injury or death, and 3 and no more than 15 years for gross child neglect resulting in death.

Allen was ordered to serve the terms consecutively, so she’ll serve no less than 5 years and no more than 35 years.

Richardson is scheduled for a jury trial on April 24.
