Fire destroys portion of Edna Gas Road home

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — At least four volunteer fire departments were dispatched to a Wednesday afternoon fire in Monongalia County.

At approximately 12:55, Monongalia County Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency received a 911 call about a structure fire on Edna Gas Road.

“It was a single story home. The heat started to spread flames over to the garage which was a detached garage. Our initial attack was to salvage the garage the best we could because the home was pretty much involved by the time we got here,” explained Mickey Rinehart, Assistant Fire Chief with the River Road Volunteer Fire Department.

A caller had advised operators smoke and flames were showing and all residents were out of the home.

“The owner is the one that called it in. I’m not sure if they were actively there or if they had come home or not,” Rinehart added.

River Road VFD, Westover VFD, Cool Springs VFD and Cassville VFD were originally dispatched to the blaze.
A tanker truck arrived at about 1:25 p.m. to assist with water supply.
Firefighters requested a second tanker truck for assistance with water supply at approximately 1:45 p.m.

“No one was hurt, firefighters or civilians either one,” said Rinehart.

An investigation is ongoing.

“Without talking to the owner I’m not really sure even where the fire originated or anything like that. Our primary goal, like I said was to try to save the garage as best we could and move on.”

A caller advised 911 there were no residents inside the home when officials were notified.
