UPDATED: Forest Avenue fire reported in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – At 7:42 a.m. Sunday firefighters in Morgantown were called to an active fire at 485 Forest Avenue. The smoke was clearly visible from the South Side Station at the time of dispatch.

A second alarm was sounded when the first engine company reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the building upon arrival. The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

Damage to the vacant property owned by Jewelman Rentals was estimated to be $125,000.

Investigators say they found evidence of unauthorized people living in vacant home.

The State Fire Marshal in conducting the investigation.
